A passenger plane with 54 people on board went missing early this morning in Indonesia, according to news reports.
The Trigana Air Service was approaching its destination in Oksibil when it went missing, Fox News Channel reported. The ATR 42-300 plane was flying from Jayapura with 49 passengers and five crew members on board.
The pilot apparently did not make a distress call before the plane went missing.
According to CNN, villagers in the area reported seeing the plane crash into a mountain.
“There are a number of eyewitnesses who have said they saw the plane crash in the valley before the airport,” The Guardian quoted aviation analyst Gerry Soejatman as saying.
