Atlanta park in heart of Buckhead reopens

ATLANTA — A popular park in the heart of the city’s Buckhead community has reopened following a complete overhaul.

The Charlie Loudermilk Park officially reopened March 31 following a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the park’s namesake. A new statue of Loudermilk, founder of Aaron’s, was unveiled during the ceremony.

The half-acre park at the intersection of Peachtree and Roswell roads in the heart of Buckhead Village closed for a $2.5 million upgrade. Then-Mayor Sam Massell purchased the land on which the park sits in the 1970s.

“I love it,” Atlanta INtown quoted Loudermilk as saying before the March 31 ceremony. “It turned out better than I thought it might. … I think they did pretty well.”

The park was originally named Triangle Park. Before the city purchased the land, it was home to several businesses, including Jacob’s Pharmacy, according to a column from Massell published on BuckheadView.

As part of the overhaul, the park now features a clock tower.
