Southern Museum to honor members during gala

The Kennesaw Museum Foundation and the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History will honor their members during the upcoming Heroes and Legends Gala.

The Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Embassy Suites in Kennesaw. Tickets are $125 per person or $1,000 for a table of eight; additional sponsorship levels are also available.

This year’s Gala has a Gone with the Wind theme, and attendees are encouraged to dress in period garb; black tie is optional. Festivities for the evening include a dinner provided by Ruth’s Chris Steak House and a silent auction featuring rare railroad memorabilia.

All proceeds from the Gala benefit educational outreach programs at the Southern Museum. All donations are tax deductible.

“Our members are so important to the Museum, so it’s fitting  that we take an evening to honor them for all that they’ve contributed to the Museum’s mission and its success,” said Dr. Richard Banz, executive director of the Southern Museum. “With the support of our dedicated members, we are able to provide programming that is educating a new generation of historians about the importance the railroad played in helping rebuild the South after the Civil War.”

During last year’s Gala, the Foundation honored longtime conservator and board member Richard “Dick” Hillman. In 2011, the Foundation honored Jeff Drobney, former director of the Southern Museum and Kennesaw’s current assistant city manager.
